NY Giants second-round pick: Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin
The Giants lost Xavier McKinney in free agency to the Green Bay Packers and they haven’t looked to address a replacement in free agency. Jalen Mills was signed, but he’s a veteran depth piece at this stage of his career.
Sure, the Giants could go with Jason Pinnock and Dane Belton as the two starting safeties, and there’s a possibility that Shane Bowen could start both when Week 1 rolls around. However, with the Giants staying put at pick No. 47 and watching three other quarterbacks go before they make their next pick, Schoen decides to take the best player available and in this case, it’s Minnesota safety Tyler Nubin.
Nubin finished the 2023 season with 53 total tackles and five interceptions. He’s considered one of the best safeties in the draft and with the departure of McKinney, Nubin makes a lot of sense to replace him.
If Bowen would have to pick who would start between the three safeties for two spots, Pinnock with Nubin would be the logical way to go. Belton would still probably get opportunities to play, but Nubin would take over the void left by McKinney and get inserted into the starting lineup.
