NY Giants fourth-round pick: USC RB Marshawn Lloyd
The Giants decided to let Saquon Barkley walk away as a free agent, which has given NY fans time to consider the next guy to replace him long term. Devin Singletary was signed, but he’s not going to be a cow-bell type back that Barkley was.
So, with their fourth-round pick, the Giants get a back to go with Singletary and take Marshawn Lloyd out of USC. It will be the second straight year where the Giants take a running back on the third day, as they selected Eric Gray in the fifth round a year ago. Gray didn’t quite show that he was able to replace Barkley, so the need for a back like Lloyd is needed.
After transferring from South Carolina to USC for 2023, Lloyd finished the season with 116 attempts for 826 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games for the Trojans. With Barkley gone, it allows for the Giants to get away from using one primary back and to get back to using a back-by-committee, which was an approach Daboll saw when he was the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. Going with Singletary and Lloyd can allow for fresh legs to be in the offense and have a different dynamic at the running back spot that most haven’t seen since 2017.
