3. RB Ron Dayne

After smashing the NCAA all-time rushing yards record and winning the Heisman trophy, it seemed as if Ron Dayne was set to be one of the best running backs in NFL history. However, that was far from the case. Not only did Dayne massively disappoint, but he was flat out bad for the Giants during his four seasons with the team.

The Giants selected Dayne 11th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft, and in his rookie season, Dayne was solid, forming the infamous Thunder and Lightning duo with team legend Tiki Barber. In this season, Dayne would rush the ball 228 times for 770 yards and five touchdowns, averaging 3.4 yards per carry. While these numbers aren't bad, this would go on to be the best season of Dayne's career by far.

In the remaining three seasons Dayne spent with the Giants, he would run the ball 357 times for 1,297 yards and 11 touchdowns. These numbers are similar to what Saquon Barkley put up in his most recent season alone except Barkley had more yards and one less touchdown on 62 fewer carries.

Considering that league MVP Shaun Alexander was taken just eight picks later, it's clear that New York had a big lapse of judgment with this selection. While it may not have had a disastrous effect on the team's future, it certainly didn't help their odds of success.
