At this point, it feels like beggars can't be choosers. The NY Giants have been working overtime to try and bring in a veteran cornerback this offseason, but the efforts from GM Joe Schoen and Co. have fallen short thus far.

However, Schoen isn't ready to give up there just yet. With the start of minicamp, Schoen brought in several players for a tryout, including CB Tre Herndon. While he wouldn't be a splash signing, he'd indeed provide the CBs room with needed experience. He also wouldn't cost a lot of dough.

Will the NY Giants end up signing cornerback Tre Herndon?

Herndon has spent the past six years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he remains in free agency looking for a new home. Last season for the AFC South side, Herndon appeared in 16 games, with four starts.

He posted 46 total tackles, nine pass deflections and one forced fumble. No, he's not the kind of star playmaker that fans are hoping for, but he'd provide depth and he also has 83 career games to his name. Yes, we know people probably want Stephon Gilmore or Xavien Howard, but it might not make sense financially for Schoen to make either of those deals happen.

Previously this offseason, Schoen swung and missed with Tre'Davious White and Darious Williams, with the two signing with the Rams. Then, a recent report stated the Giants were in on Steven Nelson, but the former Texan opted to retire instead despite receiving interest from NY and several others.

Deonte Banks is locked in as the CB1 for this team, as he's coming off a brilliant rookie season. Cor'Dale Flott, for now, is set to be the CB2 and the staff has praised him throughout the offseason. Herndon may not win a starting job in East Rutherford, but we can't stress depth at CB enough. Schoen hasn't had much luck in his pursuit of a CB in free agency, but Herndon would make sense for multiple reasons.
