For what feels like the entire offseason, the focus for the NY Giants if they decide to replace Daniel Jones has been on Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels and even J.J. McCarthy. Those four guys feel like the top quarterback prospects ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

However, one of the main takeaways from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis had to be the strong display from Washington signal-caller Michael Penix Jr. This kid is the real deal and projections have him falling to the second round. Imagine if the Giants were to grab Malik Nabers/Rome Odunze at No. 6 overall and then Penix was taken with one of Joe Schoen's second-round picks? Yup, sign us up.

Michael Penix Jr. could be the QB of the future for the NY Giants

Penix put on a show at the Combine and he's been receiving loads of compliments since things wrapped up. Penix, unlike other top QBs, said he decided to throw at the Combine because he never turns down an opportunity to compete. This decision may have earned him even more millions once late April gets here.

The main knock on Penix is his injury history, which includes two torn ACLs while he was at Indiana. However, he stayed pretty darn healthy at Washington - Penix powered UW to the National Championship Game this past season.

Is Penix a perfect QB? No. However, he'd be a heck of a steal in the second round and going this route would prevent the Giants from having to give up a ton of draft capital to move up. People are hoping to get to No. 3 to grab Daniels, but it would cost, at least, swapping first-round picks and three second-rounders.

In this scenario, we have the Giants bringing in a WR1 at No. 6 overall, then taking Penix in the second round. Penix could then sit behind Daniel Jones this upcoming season and take a year to learn Brian Daboll's system. If Jones doesn't play well in '24, then Penix could take over as the starter late in the season - Jones would surely be cut before 2025 arrives too.

Yes, there's a risk involved with drafting Penix, but he's got a cannon for an arm and he has the potential to be a stud in this league. Bring him to MetLife instead of reaching for someone like McCarthy please.
