4 NY Giants who have impressed at training camp
3. CB Tre Hawkins
Entering the season, it seemed like the NY Giants had a pretty deep secondary. It may not have been stacked with elite talent, but there were certainly several solid players ready to step up whenever they were needed. With names like Adoree' Jackson, Deonte Banks, Cor'Dale Flott, and Darnay Holmes looking to be the teams' main corners, it was looking to be a rather good group.
However, it seems as if sixth-round rookie Tre Hawkins very well could be on his way to significant action this fall. Not only is this incredibly unprecedented, but it could be a huge addition to the Giants' secondary. New York has consistently failed to hit on mid-to-late round draft picks over the last seven years. However, it seems as if Hawkins could finally be their diamond in the rough going into 2023.
During the Giants' practice on Monday, the team ran Hawkins and Banks as the two main outside corners, with Jackson in the slot. This was interesting to see, as Darnay Holmes has been looking rough thus far.
If the Giants can hit on both Banks, who they selected in the first round, and Hawkins, a sixth-round pick, New York could have their young CB duo for the foreseeable future. This would not only make things easier in the short term, but the Giants' long-term success would benefit as well due to their young age and cheap contracts.
