At 1-2, it is definitely not the start the NY Giants wanted to have for their 2023 regular season. The G-Men are coming off a rough 30-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and they're now getting ready for a massive Week 4 tilt with the Seahawks.
Their schedule does not get any easier, as three of their next four opponents were playoff teams a year ago. To make things worse, the Giants also have some injuries on their squad that could have an impact on their campaign if they wish to get back into the postseason.
Yes, the offense has been struggling and the defense has not looked good either, but these four injuries as the Giants prep for their Monday night game against the Seahawks next week are cause for concern:
4. Running back Saquon Barkley
Yes, Giants running back Saquon Barkley has made some great progress in his return from a high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. However, the Giants need to be cautious with this injury and even though progress has been made on his injury, if he is indeed out, it could be another rough night for the Giants on offense.
Put this into perspective, Daniel Jones relies on Barkley when he's next to him on the field. In 20 games where Jones played without Barkley, the Giants have gone 8-12 and Jones' stats have not been that impressive either. He has 16 touchdowns to 18 interceptions in the games without the former No. 2 overall pick with a quarterback rating of 76.7
That trend continued for Jones and the Giants on offense, as they had a game to forget against the 49ers. The Giants are going up against a Seahawks team that has scored 37 points in back-to-back games and if they want to keep up with that top-tier offense, Barkley needs to be on the field next Monday.
