NY Giants injury nightmare arrives on opening kickoff vs. Commanders
The NY Giants couldn't even make it 20 seconds without an injury going down? On the opening kickoff, the Commanders were able to take the ball back to the house for six, but a holding call brought things back. While that was positive, all eyes were on kicker Graham Gano after that. How come?
Well, Gano, who entered the game dealing with a bum groin, tried chasing down the Washington returner and he injured his hamstring on the play. You've got to be kidding. Gano was visibly in a ton of pain and he was also quite frustrated. On the television broadcast, it was just announced that Gano is doubtful to return too. Sheesh.
Graham Gano got injured on the opening play vs. the Commanders
With Gano now expected to miss the rest of the contest, and possibly more time, punter Jamie Gillan will take over the kicking duties. You've got to feel for Gano, however. He was injured leading up to Sunday, but he pushed himself to make sure he could get ready to help out his team on the road.
For him to get injured on the opening kickoff is a sick joke. This stings even more for Gano since he had to undergo knee surgery last year, costing him the majority of the campaign. When he's healthy, Gano is automatic kicking the ball through the uprights. However, staying close to 100 percent has been a major issue for him recently.
The Giants are in a must-win game already in Week 2 against the Commanders - this Gano adversity is a headache for Brian Daboll and Co. This team truly can't seem to catch a break.
