Joe Schoen trades up once again to draft speedy WR for Daniel Jones
NY Giants general manager Joe Schoen has worked his magic once again. Earlier on Friday night, Big Blue supporters were jacked up with the news that Minnesota center John Michael Schmitz was the second-round pick.
Well, Schoen has people quite pumped up once again, as he has traded up to No. 73 overall to draft a player that NY supporters are quite familiar with: Tennessee wideout Jalin Hyatt. Hyatt had actually been mentioned as a possible first-rounder for the Giants. Instead, he fell to the third round and NY has to love how things shaped out.
The NY Giants selected WR Jalin Hyatt in the third round of the NFL Draft
To recap, the Giants have brought in Deonte Banks, Schmitz AND Hyatt thus far in the draft? Let's go! This is a dream scenario for Big Blue, as Schoen has filled three massive needs for this team on both sides of the ball.
Defensive coordinator Wink Martindale was ecstatic with the Banks addition and you better believe that offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is loving the Schmitz and Hyatt moves. Hyatt has unreal speed, which the SEC as a whole witnessed last campaign.
The new Giants playmaker is coming off a huge 2022 season, as the 6-0, 175-pounder posted 67 receptions for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. No one is going to forget his showing vs. Nick Saban and Alabama, as he finished with six receptions for 207 yards and five (FIVE!) touchdowns in a thrilling win.
With his blazing wheels, Hyatt will be looked at to open up the field for Daniel Jones and Co. People were calling for another stud wideout to join the WRs room and Schoen has delivered big time in this case. Welcome to East Rutherford, Mr. Hyatt.
