Giants News: Jarrad Davis out for the season, replacements available in free agency
The worst-case scenario has arrived for the NY Giants and veteran inside linebacker Jarrad Davis. Not long ago, it was announced that he'd be out for an extended period of time after undergoing knee surgery.
However, we now know that we won't be seeing the 'backer out on the field this season. According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Davis suffered his serious knee injury during OTAs. Not only that, but he was placed on Injured Reserve on Monday, ending his '23 campaign before it could get started.
Jarrad Davis missing the 2023 season will be a blow for the Giants defense
There's no sugarcoating things: this stings for the G-Men and defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. Davis may not be a superstar in this league, but he's got plenty of experience and the Giants were able to bring him back on a cheap, one-year deal.
This news comes with training camp being eight days away. Now, general manager Joe Schoen will surely need to start making some calls and see who he can bring to town to help out with depth. Davis will be missed, no question.
The Giants can target several intriguing linebackers in free agency
So, who could Schoen try and work a deal with? There are several names in free agency that make sense. If the Giants want to bring back a familiar name, then perhaps Jaylon Smith or Landon Collins could return to MetLife Stadium. No disrespect to Tae Crowder, but we hope Schoen doesn't give him a ring.
Elsewhere, what about former Jaguars and Steelers LB Myles Jack? He's still looking for a new home, which is hard to believe. Jack has posted at least 100 tackles in the past three seasons. He wouldn't be cheap, but Jack is a defensive stud who fans would be fired up to see make his way to East Rutherford.
