Each summer the NY Giants are dealt with some injury blows during training camp and unfortunately for head coach Brian Daboll, more of the same has arrived this year. This time, it's offensive lineman J.C. Hassenauer who has received some rough news.
On Monday morning, Daboll announced that the first-year Giant has suffered from a torn triceps. With this, the 6-2, 295-pounder is now expected to miss a significant amount of time. While this isn't a blow for the starting unit, it still hurts from a depth standpoint.
J.C. Hassenauer has suffered a torn triceps and he'll be out a while
Hassenauer, who spent the past three seasons with the Steelers, signed with the G-Men in early April. The 27-year-old lineman was a standout at Alabama and he was actually with the Crimson Tide when Daboll was still working under Nick Saban.
After going undrafted in 2018, he signed with the Falcons as an UDFA, but never took the field in the regular season for Atlanta. His official NFL debut didn't come until the '20 campaign with Pittsburgh. Last season for the Steelers, he appeared in all 17 games, but didn't post a single start.
Hassenauer was never expected to push for a starting job this summer, especially after the Giants used their second-round pick on Minnesota's John Michael Schmitz. JMS and left guard Ben Bredeson have been getting the majority of work snapping the ball to Daniel Jones.
However, quality depth for this offensive line has been an issue in recent years and you never want to see a hoss go down at this point in camp. It's up in the air just how long Hassenauer will be off the field, but triceps injuries aren't a quick fix/recovery. General manager Joe Schoen may look to bring in another body up front soon.
