Before training camp even arrived, NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll was dealt with some unwanted adversity. In case you missed it, veteran linebacker Jarrad Davis, back on a one-year deal, underwent knee surgery and he was placed on Injured Reserve earlier this week.

Just like that, Davis is lost for the season and the inside 'backer depth is looking rough for the G-Men. Despite not having a ton of cap space, general manager Joe Schoen needs to go out and sign someone as soon as possible.

Enter Landon Collins? While fans have been hoping for a bit of a splash signing, Collins makes too much sense for the G-Men at this point in the offseason.

A Landon Collins reunion with the NY Giants would be great to see

Yes, Collins' best days are behind him, but he's still got some plays left in him and he can help bring along some of the younger guys on the defense. With Davis out, Darrian Beavers and Micah McFadden are the two guys expected to push for a starting spot next to Bobby Okereke in the middle of the field.

McFadden is a second-year player who saw plenty of action in 2022, while Beavers was a preseason stud, only to tear his ACL and not play a single down in the regular season. The inexperience at inside LB is concerning.

While Collins isn't going to fix all the problems for the group, he knows what it takes to get the job done for the G-Men in East Rutherford and he wouldn't be an expensive option. Collins returned to the squad last year after signing to the practice squad, but then he was elevated to the active roster late in the campaign.

MetLife Stadium was rockin' when he intercepted Nick Foles and took that baby back to the house for an epic touchdown in the victory over the Colts. That play alone reminded people of what he's capable of. Yes, there are sexier names in free agency that people would like to see Schoen go after, but for multiple reasons, Collins feels like the best option right now.
