NY Giants fifth-round pick: Michigan OG Zak Zinter

The Giants have already drafted one offensive lineman so far. They’re about to select another one in Michigan guard Zak Zinter. Zinter was a stud for Michigan this season (before injury), the same team that went 15-0 and won the National Championship.

Zinter was at one time seen as a possible first or second-round pick, but in late November, he suffered a broken tibia and fibula in his left leg, which required surgery. For Zinter’s sake, it was a clean break, so he could be looking at a recovery time where he’s ready for NFL rookie mini-camp. At 6-6 and 322 pounds, Zinter is a large individual and he plays with a nasty side to him.

With the Giants offensive line finishing 30th overall by Pro Football Focus, New York desperately needs upgrades and the offense needs help at the guard position. With Ben Bredeson and Justin Pugh set for free agency, someone like Zinter is a solid target to look at if he is available in the fifth round.
