3. Special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey
McGaughey has been a part of several coaching tenures for the Giants, as he has been the special teams coordinator since 2018. McGaughey was brought on as part of Pat Shurmur’s staff, then stayed on for Joe Judge’s staff, and has been here for Brian Daboll’s.
At times, the special teams staff and play has been very questionable, from the kicking game in 2023 that saw Graham Gano trying to attempt field goals with a knee injury, to the carousel of punt returners the Giants tried and saw fail midseason.
Keeping Campbell over Jamison Crowder during roster cuts really came back to bite the Giants when they were going through the gauntlet of returners. After six seasons, it just might be time for Daboll to find a new voice and coordinator to coach the Giants special teams. Nobody will fault Daboll for looking elsewhere for one in 2024.
