1. OC Mike Kafka

A year ago, Mike Kafka was being interviewed for possible head coaching opportunities. Now, he might need to update his resume for other coaching jobs.

There has been a lot of speculation as far as to who has been calling the Giants offense in 2023 and whether Daboll took over the play calling for Kafka. If it that was the case, it wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a head coach for the Giants do that. Jim Fassel did it to Sean Payton over 20 years ago.

There have been times where the offense is stale and predictable. The Giants offense has also been one of the worst in the NFL at times and one that has failed to put up points in games. In seven of the Giants 14 games, the O has failed to put up at least 10 points. In 10 of the 14 games, the Giants have put up less than 20 points.

As a coach who was once up for head coaching opportunities, this was the season for Kafka to get creative and utilize the players he had on offense to put up points. He didn’t do that.

While most were looking at the reported relationship with Daboll and Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, the focus should have been on Kafka. And once the 2023 season ends, if either of the top coordinators needs to be changed, it should be Kafka who is relieved of his duties as the Giants top offensive assistant.
