3. DL Carlos ‘Boogie’ Basham Jr.

The Giants gave up a seventh-round pick to bring Carlos “Boogie” Basham Jr. to town last season, as it was someone Schoen was confident in from his time with the Buffalo Bills. However, the former Wake Forest star found it difficult to see the field, and never was able to materialize into the reclamation project Schoen had hoped.

In 2024, Basham’s cap hit is around $1.4 million, which would be a high number for a player who was barely in the team’s rotation last season. Even with all the injuries suffered by players along the team’s defensive line, Basham found it difficult to crack the lineup, and even more difficult to rack up any meaningful stats.

He has a good amount of talent, as his time with the Demon Deacons showed that, but Basham hasn’t been able to reclaim that status during his time in the NFL. Not with the Bills, and now not with the Giants. Another team may take a shot on him, but it’s obvious the Giants can’t wait around and find out.

Similar to Robinson, Basham’s talent and production doesn’t match his cap hit, and that money would be better served elsewhere. We’ll see what the Giants do, but even with the cap increase, Basham should be wearing a different uniform in 2024.
