Throughout the start of camp, the play of the NY Giants secondary has been a bit of a worry. You can give credit to the Giants wide receivers, of course including Malik Nabers, for looking great, but the fact of the matter is that more depth is needed, especially for the cornerbacks room.

General manager Joe Schoen took notice of things and has signed a veteran cornerback. According to the trustworthy Dan Duggan, the Giants have signed 6-0, 190-pounder Breon Borders. In addition, the team has released quarterback Nathan Rourke, a move that was expected to happen sooner rather than later:

The New York Giants have signed veteran cornerback Breon Borders

As Duggan noted, Borders has spent time with 12 teams thus far in his career, which started in 2017 with Buffalo. He has appeared in games for the Bills, Jaguars, Commanders, Titans, Cardinals and Bears. His best season came with Tennessee in 2020, as he posted 27 total tackles, five pass deflections and one interception.

Borders last hit the field for a regular season game in 2022, suiting up for the Bears. In 2023, he was with the Patriots and Falcons on their respective practice squads, but never saw any action. Now, he's going to hope to make a splash for NY and wait to see if he can put the pads on at some point this fall.

The newest Big Blue CB has a tall task to make the Week 1 roster and quite frankly, this isn't the secondary move a lot of fans were waiting for. Instead, Giants Nation has been hoping that Schoen would go out and sign either Stephon Gilmore or Xavien Howard - a starting-caliber CB is needed to push projected CB2 Cor'Dale Flott. There's still time for Schoen and the front office to make something like that happen as camp progresses, though.
