Well, at least Brian Daboll and the NY Giants came to their senses. Over the weekend, kicker Graham Gano popped up on the injury report with a groin issue. The veteran thought he would be just fine for Week 2 and the G-Men didn't make a move as a back-up plan in case he got hurt.

That backfired, with Gano injuring himself on the opening kickoff. We now know that injury and not having someone else in uniform cost NY a win. With Week 3 around the corner, there are no risks to be taken, as the Giants have, finally, made fans happy by signing veteran kicker Greg Joseph.

The NY Giants have signed kicker Greg Joseph and placed Graham Gano on Injured Reserve

This is an interesting call, as the Giants brought in four kickers for workouts earlier in the week: Randy Bullock, Zane Gonzalez, Riley Patterson and Tanner Brown. Those four clearly didn't turn Daboll's head enough, with him deciding to go in a different direction.

That direction is the addition of Joseph, who plenty of Big Blue supporters are quite familiar with. Back during the 2022 campaign, the G-Men took down the Vikings in the Wild Card Round. However, in a regular season clash, NY suffered a heartbreaking loss, with Joseph drilling a 61-yard field goal to win it.

Joseph spent the previous three seasons with the Vikings after spending his first year with the Browns and then following that up with one campaign in Tennessee. Last season for the Vikes, Joseph connected on 24-of-30 field-goal attempts, an 80 percent success rate.

This offseason, Minnesota decided to go in a different direction and Joseph tried to win the job in Green Bay, but he was released. He ended up joining Detroit's practice squad, but the Giants are ready to see what he can do since Gano is being placed on Injured Reserve per Jordan Raanan. Had Joseph, or any other kicker for that matter, been available in Week 2, Big Blue would be 1-1. That wasn't the case, but as we mentioned above, Daboll is covering his bases here with this latest update. Hopefully it pays off.
