If the Giants running back room is fully stocked, the Giants wide receiver room is overflowing. New York signed Cole Beasley on Friday afternoon, bringing the Giants wide receiver room to max capacity ahead of camp.

The Giants will likely keep seven wide receivers to start 2023, which means they will cut more than half of the current room. Isaiah Hodgins, Parris Campbell Jr., Darius Slayton, and rookie Jalin Hyatt are all locks to make the roster. Sterling Shepard and Wan’Dale Robinson are recovering from ACL tears, but as soon as they are healthy, they will be on the roster.

That is six wide receivers locked in. That realistically leaves Beasley, Collin Johnson, Jamison Crowder, Bryce Ford-Wheaton, and Jeff Smith battling for one slot. Beasley should have a leg up in the race due to his familiarity with Daboll and Schoen from their time in Buffalo, but I wouldn’t count out Johnson, a training camp star in 2022 before tearing his ACL. Johnson also dominated during the Giants minicamp this spring. Crowder is likely to be the odd man out, which will surprise many, as he is a recognizable name.

Crowder plays primarily out of the slot, and the Giants already have five guys (Campbell Jr., Beasley, Hyatt, Shepard, and Robinson) who can also play in the slot. Crowder also returns punts, but it’s hard to fathom the Giants keeping him on the roster just to return punts considering they have many other players who can do that too.
