10 NY Giants training camp talking points for fans to focus on
• Will there be a surprise cut or two over the next couple of weeks?
4. Someone needs to step up at ILB next to Bobby Okereke
Unfortunately for Daboll, the news recently came in that veteran inside linebacker Jarrad Davis is out for the season after undergoing knee surgery. He injured himself during OTAs. Davis was expected to compete for a starting job. Now, though, it looks like the ILB2 battle will be between Micah McFadden and Darrian Beavers.
Okereke has a job locked up, as he inked a four-year, $40 million deal with the Giants during free agency. Okereke is a tackle machine and people can't wait to see him do his thing for this team. Moving forward, though, McFadden or Beavers will have to step their game up tremendously to help out this defense. Both are second-year players.
However, we also can't rule out the Giants potentially signing someone else to come in and compete for the starting role. Several names have been mentioned as possibilities, but it looks like fans are keeping their fingers crossed that Schoen will sign former second-round pick Myles Jack. Jack is a quality LB and he'd definitely be an impact signing for the Giants if they go down this road.
