NY Giants and Wink Martindale disrespected in new PFN rankings
It's about time for people to start showing the NY Giants some respect. Even last season, despite the team recording upset win after upset win, the haters were out in full force. Entering the 2023 campaign, it looks like there's more of the same for Big Blue.
In their newest defensive rankings across the league, Pro Football Network understandably had the Jets and Cowboys as the top two units in the game. However, where did they slot defensive coordinator Wink Martindale's group? In surprishing fashion, PFN has NY checking in at No. 29. This is pretty absurd if you ask us.
PFN ranked the NY Giants as the No. 29 defense in the NFL
"The Giants had a glaring hole at cornerback that they fixed with Deonte Banks, but they still have work to do at that position and safety. Without a strong projected unit at linebacker and only a modest pass rush despite the excellent names there, there’s reason to believe the Giants will stay about the same defensively."
- Pro Football Network's Arif Hasan
With all due respect to PFN, we think that the Giants made some massive improvements for the defense this offseason. For starters, the additions of Bobby Okereke at linebacker and Deonte Banks at cornerback is impressive.
PFN also thinks the pass-rush will be modest? Alright, well, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Azeez Ojulari coming off the edges is one thing, but the interior defensive line got much stronger with the signings of A'Shawn Robinson and Rakeem Nunez-Roches.
Those two join the likes of $90 million man Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams. If anything, the pass-rush will be much improved for the 2023 campaign. There are still some questions for the secondary, but the G-Men are lined up to have plenty of success this season. If anything, this ranking from PFN will only motivate Martindale and Co.
