Of course the only NY Giants OL starter to play vs. Jets got injured

This team can't catch a break.

With it being the preseason finale, NY Giants head coach Brian Daboll was surely hoping to just get through the game without any injuries to key players. The majority of the starters were given the night off, but up front, center John Michael Schmitz was suited up and he took the field to try and get some more live action in.

Unfortunately for the Giants, their starting center got rolled up on during a 4th-down run by speedy back Dante Miller. Schmitz was in quite a bit of discomfort and he was checked on the sidelines by the training staff. Not long after that, the team announced he was ruled out with an ankle injury. This comes after Schmitz previously missed time this summer with a shoulder issue. Not good:

John Michael Schmitz injured his ankle in the Giants-Jets showdown

Schmitz was spotted on the sidelines without his helmet on, so we're going to assume this isn't overly serious and he shouldn't miss significant time. However, the season-opener vs. the Vikings is coming up soon on Sept. 8. It's too early to tell if Schmitz's status is going to be up in the air for that one, but adding an ankle injury to his previous shoulder one is not good.

The second-year hoss missing any practice time moving forward is also going to be a setback for him. Due to his bum shoulder, it cost him plenty of time this summer in trying to get on the same page with Daniel Jones. Thankfully they were able to play together in the preseason Week 2 loss vs. the Texans, but that showing for the offense as a whole didn't go according to plan.

Now, everyone is going to be waiting to see if Schmitz is going to be able to shake this one off and practice like usual moving forward. The fact that he has more adversity to battle, however, is not good at all. The Giants starting offensive line hasn't had enough time to work together over the past month or so, which should be a concern for Coach Dabes. This latest Schmitz injury is not good at all.
