When Week 1 gets here and the NY Giants take on the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Daboll needs Saquon Barkley out on the field to try and help this team post an upset. Thinking about Barkley missing that game is surely keeping people up at night.
That's why it's extra important for general manager Joe Schoen and Barkley to figure things out contract wise by Monday's deadline. Barkley is hoping to get the kind of money he thinks he deserves via a multi-year deal and he's making necessary moves to try and improve his chances.
According to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, Barkley now has reps at Roc Nation and CAA trying to get a contract done with the Giants. This feels like a major move from No. 26:
Fans are hoping the Giants can extend Saquon Barkley by the deadline
"Per NFLPA records, Barkley is currently represented by Kim Miale of Roc Nation and Ed Perry of CAA. According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Perry was added to the negotiating team in the middle of June. The change suggests that Barkley was not fully satisfied with the service he was getting. However, he was not so dissatisfied that he fired Roc Nation."Mike Florio
If we can be frank here, the Barkley contract situation has been a nightmare for a while now. With that said, it only makes sense that Barkley decided to switch things up with his contract negotiations. With Ed Perry of CAA now helping things out, it gives people plenty of reason to feel hopeful.
It's unknown how much the Giants have offered Barkley, but he was quick to shoot down rumors this week that he was hoping to get around $16 million per season. Will $13-14 million be enough for Barkley? We'll know for sure by Monday.
The sooner Schoen and Barkley can get things figured out, the better it will be for the offense and team as a whole. Sit tight, NY fans, good news may be on the way soon enough.
