A lot has been said about Saquon Barkley leaving the NY Giants. However, you think just because he's now playing with the Eagles that he has forgotten about his former teammates and coaches? Not at all. While speaking to the media in Philly, Barkley said he heard from Brian Daboll ahead of his debut with Gang Green.
Then, Barkley added that he reached out to Daniel Jones following NY's Week 1 loss to the Minnesota Vikings at MetLife Stadium. Things didn't go well for Jones, who finished with no touchdowns and two interceptions. Barkley knew his buddy was probably down on himself, so he didn't think twice about sending him a message of support:
Saquon Barkley reached out to Daniel Jones after the Giants' brutal Week 1 loss
"Yeah, I talked to him. I'm really good friends with DJ (Daniel Jones) and obviously he didn't have the game that he wanted. For me it was to let him know just go out there and play free and do what you do best. "Saquon Barkley
In recent months, a lot of people have been bashing Barkley for leaving the Giants to sign with the Eagles. We'll be the first to admit that we've even called the two-time Pro Bowler out for inking with a hated rival. Having said that, this is a pretty special move from Barkley.
He's coming off an unreal game, where he rushed for two touchdowns in Brazil against the Packers and added another one through the air for a hat-trick. Add in the 100+ yards rushing and it was the kind of first game with a new team that most men dare not even dream of.
Barkley is one of the best running backs in the game and he deserves all the attention he's getting. While that's exciting for him, he felt the need to connect with his good friend to let him know that he still is a quality QB and he needs to keep doing what he does best. Jones has been getting blasted following his showing vs. Minnesota, but he has a great chance to bounce back vs. Washington. If he balls out, Barkley will be elated to see it happen.
