Saquon Barkley subtly silences NY Giants haters with new social media activity
Can we all agree former NY Giants running back Saquon Barkley was telling the truth the entire offseason? While some people are still going after the veteran running back, the latest edition of Hard Knocks confirmed two things: John Mara didn't want to see him go and the G-Men never put a new offer on the table.
In the show, Joe Schoen told Barkley to test the market and he asked NY to have a chance to match his best offer. Saquon's best deal was presented, and Schoen said it was too much money - NY was never going to match what the Eagles put on the table. Shortly after the new episode dropped, Saquon's most recent repost on 'X' sure tells everyone that he's glad the truth has finally come out:
NY Giants fans need to stop hammering Saquon Barkley moving forward
The drama between fans and Barkley this offseason grew in massive fashion as soon as it was announced he signed a contract with the Eagles. Barkley landed $37.75 million over three years with $26 million guaranteed, which, again, was too much for Schoen's liking.
Barkley has been bashed left and right on social media, while New York fans even showered him with boos during a Game 6 tilt between the Knicks and 76ers in Philly. After that happened, Barkley took to social media to say he couldn't believe he was still getting hate for his free agency decision.
People are always going to have beef with Barkley for signing with the Eagles. Had he gone to the Bears, Ravens or Texans, things wouldn't be the way they are now. He wanted to be a Giant for life, but it just wasn't meant to be for him in this case.
A lot of Big Blue supporters assumed he just bolted town and never gave Schoen and the Giants a chance to bring him back. Now, though, we know that wasn't the case. Barkley told the truth and he took the best deal that he was presented with. It sucks to see him with the Eagles, but it just seems like Schoen was never that high on paying him top dollar in March. Phily did. Case closed.
