We really can't go more than a couple of weeks without drama involving the Washington Commanders can we? Things have been a miss for this organization for a while now, while the same can't be said for the NY Giants since Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll arrived to town.

The latest issue for Washington is a head-turning one. On Friday morning, it was announced that several players have been suspended by the NFL for betting on games. The list includes Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney, who will miss at least the 2023 campaign. That's just brutal news for Ron Rivera and Co.

Washington DE Shake Toney has been suspended for betting on NFL games

Toney is joined by Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore as the players who will be out for a least one full season. Cephus and Moore have also quickly been released by the Detroit Lions following Friday's breaking update.

It's unknown what Washington will do with Toney, but we do know the NFC East side won't be able to rely on the third-year DE this fall and winter. In two seasons with the Commanders, Toney, a former Penn State standout, has appeared in 26 games for Washington. He only has one start to his name.

Last season, he posted eight total tackles in 16 contests. He's not a superstar by any means, but he has proven to be a quality depth piece for Washington. The Commanders released a statement stating that they were made aware of the suspension for the youngster and that they have fully cooperated with the investigation since the allegations were brought forward.

The Commanders had nothing to say about Toney's future with the organization, but you better believe Rivera and his staff are not happy about this. Luckily for Daboll and Schoen, their focus is on the NFL Draft and not this mess.
