This should have never been a flag.

This should have never been called, period. There was plenty of late drama in the NY Giants Week 2 loss to the Washington Commanders at Northwest Stadium. One play in particular that continues to have people livid came on 3rd-and-5 with a little over 10 minutes to go. At the time, the G-Men were up 18-15 on the road.

Jayden Daniels was brought down for a sack, which would have set up 4th down, giving NY the ball back. However, the officials had other ideas. Defensive holding was called on rookie slot cornerback Dru Phillips going up against veteran tight end Zach Ertz. A closer look at things shows that it was 100 percent the wrong call. How in the world was laundry thrown for this?

A holding call on Dru Phillips was downright embarrassing from the refs

Come on, that's just brutal. Ertz lowered his shoulder, ran over Phillips, yet he was the one who apparently committed a foul? What should Phillips have done in this situation? This should never be a penalty and the officials from this game are getting blasted for their wild decision. Daniel Jones should have gotten the ball back, with the G-Men having a great chance to chew up some clock.

Instead, Daniels was given new life on this drive and he took full advantage. Shortly after the penalty, Daniels drove his team down the field and Washington tied things up at 18-18 on Austin Seibert's sixth field goal of the day.

The Giants had a perfect opportunity to retake the lead, but their final drive of the day ended with a dropped pass from Malik Nabers on 4th down. Nabers called himself out for the terrible drop, which gave Washington the ball and helped set them up for their game-winning field goal as time expired.

Nabers is down in the dumps over costing his team, but he's not to blame for the final outcome. He finished with 10 receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. He'll be asking himself what could have been had he made the catch, but we're also going to be wondering what could have been if the Phillips penalty wasn't called. It should have never happened and it's going to have Big Blue supporters upset for a little while.
