1. LB Drue Tranquill - Kansas City Chiefs

The Giants could use another linebacker, as they currently have six listed as free agents this offseason, including Isaiah Simmons. However, they are still looking for their missing piece who could play alongside Bobby Okereke and opposite Kayvon Thibodueax. Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill could be the missing piece the G-Men are looking for, and he'd be a massive upgrade for defensive coordinator Shane Bowen.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Tranquill in 2019, where he would play four seasons. After a solid rookie season, the expectation was that Tranquill would increasingly get better year after year. Still, he suffered a broken ankle injury in Week 1 of the 2020 season, which would sideline him for the remainder of the year. However, he returned from injury and performed even better than his rookie campaign, earning him a deserving one-year contract with Kansas City.

The 28-year-old LB came to the Chiefs and would play a significant role on and off the field this past season. Tranquill provided Steve Spagnuolo's talented defensive unit with several big plays, including two tackles in Super Bowl LVIII, which helped the Chiefs earn their third championship in five years. The veteran linebacker totaled 79 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles this season.

I expect the Chiefs to re-sign Tranquill this offseason; however, the question is whether the team has enough room to sign all their defensive players set to hit the open market in free agency. The Chiefs will prioritize bringing back Jones and would likely want the same for Sneed. They also like to explore retaining safety Mike Edwards and inside linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and recruiting other talented defensive players in free agency. Tranquill may fall into several teams' laps if the Chiefs can't offer him what he deserves. The Giants could be an excellent fit for the veteran if they showed interest early on, and they could offer Tranquill what he is looking for in his next team.
