This NY Giants-Chiefs trade for Darius Slayton would solve issues for both teams

This is something the Chiefs are going to want to consider.

In about a month, the NFL trade deadline will arrive and some current NY Giants players may be on their way out of town. Since we can remember, wide receiver Darius Slayton has been mentioned as someone who may be sent to a new team - with him being in the last year of his contract, it'd make sense for Joe Schoen to try and get a mid-round pick back for him.

Well, how about a move to the Kansas City Chiefs? KC and NY are familiar with contract talks for a wideout, as Schoen sent Brett Veach - and Andy Reid - Kadarius Toney in exchange for two picks ahead of the deadline in 2022. Patrick Mahomes needs a new playmaker for the offense and while Slayton still can be inconsistent with drops, he'd fill a major need for the AFC West side.

The Kansas City Chiefs should call the NY Giants about a Darius Slayton trade

In this case, we think the Chiefs sending the Giants a 2025 fourth-round pick or fifth-round pick would be enough for Slayton in return. New York has WR Jalin Hyatt behind Slayton on the depth chart, so the former third-rounder could fill that role should the veteran be on the move.

The Chiefs have been decimated with injuries at the position. First, Marquise Brown went down and then a new low was reached in Week 4. Star speedster Rashee Rice was trying to make a play following a Mahomes interception, but he collided with his QB and the fear is that he suffered a torn ACL.

With Rice potentially out for the season, and Brown likely off the field until the playoffs, this team has a massive hole to fill. That's where someone like Slayton could help out, as he'd immediately become the team's new WR1 if a trade was made.

New York is 1-3 on the year and they're not expected to be contenders in '24, that's the sad reality of things. Slayton won't be back next campaign, so the time is now to at least get a draft pick for him. He's been with the Giants since 2019 and been a solid teammate and contributor, but if a fourth-rounder or fifth-rounder is put on the table by the Chiefs, Schoen can't think twice about accepting.
