Watch refs gift the Cowboys a TD vs. Giants with awful missed holding call
By Ryan Heckman
Thursday night, the New York Giants set out to continue flipping the script on their season after a Week 3 win over Cleveland. From the jump, Malik Nabers picked up right where he left off, and the Giants would follow suit early on.
Under the lights at home, the Giants got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott began leading his offense down the field a bit later in response. Ultimately, Dak was praised by commentators Kirk Herbstreit and Al Michaels for going 9-of-10 for 82 yards and a rating of 134.2 on that initial drive.
What the G-Men didn't expect to see, though, was that Dak would be aided a little, on this particular drive, by the team in black and white.
New York had already seen one completely bogus penalty called against the wrong team on their first offensive drive, costing them 15 yards when it should have been a facemask on Dallas instead. Tight end Daniel Bellinger had his face mask pulled on for a good couple of seconds, but the refs called a flag on New York rather than Dallas.
And, just when the Giants figured the officials had started to right their wrongs by calling a correct penalty on Dallas, as they entered the red zone during this specific drive, things took a turn for the worse.
The referees clearly gave the Cowboys a touchdown by missing a ridiculously-obvious holding call
It was 2nd-and-15 from the Giants' 15-yard line following a penalty on Dallas.
Prescott dropped back and hit running back Rico Dowdle on a short pass. Dowdle proceeded to take it all the way for the 15-yard touchdown. The only problem?
There was blatant holding on Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson -- and it wasn't called.
You can watch the entire play unfold right here.
On the season, the Cowboys came in averaging 1.3 offensive holding plays per game. Judging by how this one began, it's safe to say the Boys' number should be a tick higher. The Cowboys have owned this rivalry in recent years, but that isn't the only thing they own. Apparently, they own rights to Thursday night's officiating crew as well.
