With the start of the NFL Draft a month away, it will mark the first real test for first-year New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh, with expectations obviously high.
The Giants hired Harbaugh for spots like this, hoping that whoever they select with the fifth overall pick will work out perfectly for them. It remains to be seen, though, who New York will select with that fifth pick, whether it will be on the defensive side of the ball, or maybe on the offensive side to add to an already exciting and potentially lethal offense led by Jaxson Dart and a healthy Malik Nabers.
While early mock drafts and projections have Big Blue selecting Ohio State standout Caleb Downs in the first round with the Giants needing to bolster their secondary, this draft analyst thinks they should jump in the running with this explosive offensive superstar if he's available at No. 5.
Daniel Jeremiah wants the Giants to get in the running for Jeremiah Love if available
During an appearance on the ScheinTime podcast with Adam Schein of the New York Post, NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said the Giants should "sprint to the podium" to select running back Jeremiah Love with their first-round pick, if he's still on the board:
"I don't know what the record is in terms of how fast you can get a card in, but I would be trying to break it, I think, if I were the New York Giants in that case," Jeremiah said. "Just sprint that thing to the podium and turn in the card. To me, he's just such an electric player...This could be them not only a better team, but an infinitely more watchable team."
Love, who was a finalist for the Heisman Award last year, had a truly remarkable 2025 season with Notre Dame. The 20-year-old rushed for 1,372 yards, with 18 touchdowns while averaging nearly seven yards a carry. Love also racked up 280 receiving yards on 28 receptions. Truly a generational talent.
Despite the Giants having an exciting young running back, Cam Skattebo, as well as Tyrone Tracy, Love could really elevate Big Blue's offense to new heights if they draft him. The keyword is if, though. Love has notably already visited the Giants this offseason.
As the draft gets closer, it really is a wait-and-see on who the Giants will draft fifth overall. While the aforementioned Downs seems the more realistic selection, given New York's already crowded running back room. Jeremiah Love, though, is at least a name to look out for, and someone Daniel Jeremiah thinks can be one of the pieces to help make the G-Men relevant again.
