Russell Wilson just boldly threw himself back onto Giants' trade block

This could be the best time for the Giants to trade Russ after clapping back at Sean Payton.

Well, that did not go as planned. When things were looking up for the New York Giants, they gave up 33 points in the fourth quarter to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. New York led by 18 points with just over five minutes left and even regained the lead with 31 seconds to go, but careless mistakes on defense and special teams ultimately cost Big Blue the game.

This game had a lot at stake as both sides were talking trash to one another, and there was nothing the Giants fans wanted more than to walk out of the Mile High City with a victory, especially with the momentum going their way after an upset win over the Eagles a week before.

If there was anyone who wanted to get revenge against his former team, it was veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. While Russ did not get in the game and was not expected to with Jaxson Dart leading the offense over the last four weeks, you could tell he wanted this one badly.

Russell Wilson's unhinged social media post might've just proved his spark is still there

Things have not gone the way the 36-year-old anticipated when he signed his contract to come to New York. After a 0-3 start to the season, Wilson lost his job and was benched for the 22-year-old rookie phenom. While Russ has handled this like a professional, things could not go worse for him this season, as he is now involved in several trade rumors.

With Dart continuing to impress despite the G-Men being 2-5 and veteran backup Jameis Winston patiently waiting for an opportunity, Wilson could be dealt at the trade deadline, especially since Big Blue could be in the market for a wide receiver with Malik Nabers being sidelined for the remainder of the season.

After Big Blue's Week 7 loss to Denver, Payton told the media that the Broncos were hoping that the Giants would switch from Wilson to Dart after they played each other. Not only is that a compliment to the rookie quarterback, but it's also a knock against the veteran, who did not take this comment lightly from his former head coach.

Wilson clapped back with a post on his personal X account, calling Payton "classless." You can imagine that Russ and the Broncos organization don't have the best relationship after he had little success in Denver, and the team released him after two seasons.

Although it may not have been right for Payton to make that statement, Wilson could've probably responded differently or not at all. Still, it shows the 14-year veteran still has some bite left in him. He could have given a rehearsed response, but instead, snapping back might have been the best thing for him and a potential future elsewhere.

The gimmicky everybody else-first, and robotic responses are tiresome. At least there's still a little fight left in the future Hall of Famer. Teams are always looking for reliable backups, meaning the Russ bus might just have enough gas to make it to his next destination, thanks to this newfound snap and fire.
