Sports talk show reaches new levels of pettiness with Joe Schoen troll

This is just pure evil.

New York Giants fans are still licking their wounds after watching Saquon Barkley destroy the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship game, leaving New York fans to stew in what might be the most painful “what if” in recent memory.

As Barkley prepares to suit up for the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, the fallout from his departure continues to take on new, humiliating forms. This time, it’s coming from the world of sports talk shows.

During a recent episode of The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, producer Billy Gil proposed what might be the most diabolical form of trolling imaginable for Giants general manager Joe Schoen: If the Eagles win the Super Bowl, they should send Schoen a customized ring with Schoen's name and Saquon's stats engraved on it. Pretty relentless and petty.

"If the Eagles win they should send Joe Schoen a personalized Super Bowl ring, right?" Gil asked. "Like just to troll him even more. Like they should send a Super Bowl ring that says "Joe Schoen" and then it has all the little trinkets and everything on it. Maybe put Saquon's numbers, his number in there. Whatever that costs, I think I would do just to mess with him."

Joe Schoen cannot escape Saquon Barkley

At this point, the fallout from Joe Schoen’s decision to let Saquon Barkley walk in free agency has turned into a never-ending circus.

First, Barkley’s mom threw fuel on the fire with her “everybody knows why it didn’t happen” comments. Then, Dez Bryant decided to come out of retirement as a Twitter/X troll, going after Kayvon Thibodeaux like the Giants haven’t suffered enough. Oh, and let’s not forget that Hard Knocks could potentially be canned because this season’s front-office debacle became unintentional comedy gold.

Yes, letting Barkley go was a disaster. But let’s be real—he was never putting up this level of production in New York, no matter how you slice it. The Giants didn’t have the offensive line, the system, or the complementary pieces to let Barkley thrive like he has in Philly. Watching him torch defenses for the Eagles hurts, without question, but this whole situation has spiraled into something way bigger than it should be.

So sure, Schoen deserves his fair share of criticism and then some, but this has reached meme-worthy levels of overreaction. A Super Bowl ring with his name on it? A national conversation about one bad decision? It’s getting a little out of hand. At some point, the focus needs to shift back to fixing this team instead of rehashing what could have been and living in make-believe world.

If the Eagles were to give Schoen a ring, thanking him, wouldn't that give less credit to the Eagles organization as a whole for their Super Bowl win? Like, wouldn't that slightly discredit the win? Why would they do that? It feels like that would diminish everything else they've done and built outside of Saquon Barkley. Who knows?

At the end of the day, Joe Schoen dug this team in a hole, and it's his responsibility to get them out. Ultimately, if he's able to do so, great. If he can't, NY will bring someone else in to figure it out. No GM is perfect, and he made a big mistake. It's time to bounce back.
