More often than not, your running backs are key to your fantasy football season. Cam Skattebo owners learned that firsthand last year, when the dynamic rookie went down with a season-ending ankle injury in late October.
By the time they scrambled and hit the waiver wire, it may have been too late to find an adequate, trustworthy replacement.
With less than three months until the 2026 NFL season kicks off, GMEN HQ is previewing the New York Giants players who could land on your fantasy football roster.
Today, we continue with Skattebo, who is expected to be a full participant when training camp opens next month.
Is Cam Skattebo worth drafting in fantasy football?
When building your preseason fantasy football strategy, I personally suggest focusing more on context than ADP or projected points.
Otherwise, you run the risk of getting burned the way Ashton Jeanty owners did last year. They bought high on the No. 6 pick without considering his poor offensive line.
Don’t be overly concerned about Skattebo not being a bellcow running back.
John Harbaugh proved over his nearly two decades in Baltimore that he loves working multiple running backs, even when he has a dual-threat quarterback, into his gameplan.
Assuming that he stays healthy, there is no reason to think Skattebo won’t average double-digit touches.
In fact, the Giants’ well-documented receiving issues — headlined by Malik Nabers’ knee setbacks — only boost Skattebo’s fantasy stock.
Skattebo averaged three catches and 15 total touches under Brian Daboll and Mike Kafka.
By no means are those the numbers you want from your RB1. But Skattebo’s role is as a 1A (or 1B) with Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Skattebo should be available by the time you hit the middle rounds and are looking for your RB2.
Fantasy football is all about name recognition. Just ask your friend when he takes Travis Kelce in the first round and leaves several top running backs on the board. In terms of running backs, that means you shouldn’t be shocked if Alvin Kamara goes before Skattebo or Tracy.
If the opportunity is there to take Skattebo in the fifth or sixth round, then we suggest pouncing.
The move isn’t without risk, especially with a new head coach and offensive coordinator. That said, make sure you’ve already drafted RB1 and quarterback. There’s no reason to burn a pick on Skattebo if you haven’t yet begun assembling your true offensive core.
