The New York Giants have a solid running back entering the 2026 season, but they lack the type of truly explosive weapon in that department that could put them over the top. Enter this trade idea from Lee Vowell of Horseshoe Heroes that would bring Jonathan Taylor to the Big Apple.

Vowell suggested that, while the Indianapolis Colts shouldn't actively look to ship off Taylor, if one team were to make sense as a landing spot for the superstar running back, it'd be the G-Men.

"New York has a decent stable of backs, but none of the players are truly capable of Taylor-type greatness. New York might need that to help ascending second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart have a chance to improve more rapidly," Vowell wrote. "The Giants would be better with Taylor, and Dart would be a better quarterback. For a team trying to rebuild once again, the running back is the exact kind of player they need."

Proposed blockbuster Jonathan Taylor-Giants trade could change the calculus in New York

As for what the trade itself would look like, Vowell proposed that Indy would send Taylor over to the Giants while, in return, New York would ship a second-round pick in next year's draft and Tyrone Tracy Jr. to the Colts.

Some Giants fans might wonder why even entertain this hypothetical trade when New York has Cam Skattebo in their backfield? Vowell addressed that:

"New York has Cam Skattebo, and he is currently expected to be the team's lead back. He did get injured in 2025, though, so how healthy he remains is unknown. Plus, Taylor is clearly the better player, and having Skattebo would allow both players to remain fresh during games and late in the season."

It's hard to argue with that logic. Taylor's presence would give the Giants an unstoppable weapon, which would help Skattebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart be even better.

While this is a fun trade idea to entertain, the chances of it happening are pretty slim. Taylor is under contract for the 2026 season so unless Indy is terrible in the first few weeks of the season, the Colts are likely holding onto him for the duration of the season.

Hey, there's always a chance though. And if all it'd take to land a one-of-a-kind talent like Taylor is Tracy Jr. and a second-round pick, sign us up for that!
