Tommy DeVito just stabbed Giants fans in the back before clash with Patriots

The New York Giants haven't had much stable quarterback play since Eli Manning retired in 2019. Daniel Jones didn't pan out like the team had expected. But now, they seemingly have the answer in Jaxson Dart, who the team traded up for in the first round of this year's NFL Draft.

The Giants are 2-10 and are facing the New England Patriots, who have Drake Maye at quarterback. Ironically, the Giants could have had Maye had they not won a handful of games in 2023 in what was a lost season. Maye is currently playing like one of the top quarterbacks in the game under new head coach Mike Vrabel, and has helped lead the Patriots to a 10-2 record. One of the players that inadvertently helped the Patriots land Maye is Tommy DeVito, who won three games as the Giants starting quarterback, as it pushed them out of the top three of the 2024 NFL Draft. It was something that some Giants fans held against DeVito, as he cost them the tank.

Those fans won't like DeVito's latest comments. Ahead of the game on Monday, DeVito said that while he "loved" his time with the Giants, he said "I hope we blow them out."

That certainly won't sit well with the Giants fans who were not appreciative of DeVito ruining their chances of drafting Maye. The Giants tried their best to trade up to select Maye, but the Patriots would not budge. The Giants did get a great consolation prize in wide receiver Malik Nabers.

DeVito isn't much of a factor on a game-to-game basis for the Patriots, due in part to Maye's tremendous success in his sophomore season. DeVito is the third string quarterback behind Maye and Joshua Dobbs. Even though he did downplay how much of a role he could play in providing tips on the Giants, he's going to help in regard to giving insight on player tendencies and play style.

“I can help player breakdowns and give my two cents here and there,” DeVito said, h/t Karen Guregian of Mass Live. “I’ll help in any way I can.”

DeVito had started in eight games for the Giants in the previous two seasons, where he picked up a 3-5 record. In 12 appearances total, DeVito threw for 1,358 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions while completing 65.3 percent of his passes.

This past offseason, DeVito was the odd man out. Russell Wilson was, oddly, named the starting quarterback at the very start of training camp instead of having an open competition. Dart was guaranteed a roster spot due to being drafted in the first round and for impressing during the preseason. Jameis Winston was signed to a two-year contract and played well in the preseason. DeVito was the fourth quarterback on the roster, and was guaranteed to be either dealt via a trade or cut. Ultimately, the Giants waived DeVito, and the Patriots put in a claim for him.

While DeVito was appreciative of his time with the Giants as he built up a reputation as a local fan favorite, he wants nothing more than for the Patriots to completely decimate his former team on Monday.
