The New York Giants may have just solved one major linebacker problem in free agency while simultaneously creating an even more exciting possibility for the 2026 Draft.

That’s exactly what the Giants may have done when they agreed to terms with linebacker Tremaine Edmunds during the legal tampering window. The three-year, $36 million deal gives new head coach John Harbaugh the type of green-dot linebacker he’s leaned on for practically his entire career, and it instantly gives the defense a much-needed upgrade.

But the ripple effect from the move might actually end up pointing the G-Men even more directly toward Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles come April.

Tremaine Edmunds signing makes Sonny Styles pairing too tempting for Giants

Edmunds solves a big problem for Big Blue right away. After releasing Bobby Okereke earlier this offseason, the defense needed someone who could take control of the huddle and anchor the middle of the group. Edmunds has done that everywhere he’s played, piling up 100-plus tackles every single season of his career.

Consider the immediate part of the problem taken care of.

Now imagine adding Sonny Styles balling out next to him. It's almost impossible not to.

Styles is one of the most explosive defensive prospects the world has ever seen. We're talking unicorn-status. The former Ohio State star tested like a complete freak at the combine and plays with the kind of range that jumps off the screen. He’s big, fast, physical, and has the background of a former safety, which shows up every time he drops into coverage or tracks down a play from behind. He's a cheat code.

Pairing Styles and Edmunds together is giving Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw vibes. And I'm here for it. Originally I wasn't sold on him at five -- hand up -- but it's crazy what March Madness can bring.

Edmunds has everything Harby could possibly ask for. Styles would bring everything else. He flies around the field, covers ground in a hurry, and creates problems for offenses trying to attack the middle of the field either on the ground or through the air. Two linebackers with that kind of range roaming behind a defensive front that already includes Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, and Abdul Carter could make life miserable for opposing anybody.

More importantly, it fits the identity Harbaugh seems to be building in New York. He’s already brought in players he trusts, like Isaiah Likely and Jordan Stout, and Edmunds now gives him the defensive quarterback he likes, too. So while he's not technically a Raven, he fits the mold.

If the Giants really want to lean into a fast, aggressive defense, pairing Edmunds with Styles might be the easiest decision they make of the offseason.
