One day, the New York Giants are scouring the league for wide receiver help. The next, they’re standing pat. It’s been a frustrating will-they-won’t-they saga — but with the November 4 trade deadline fast approaching, one name might finally force their hand.
According to a bombshell report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Jacksonville Jaguars are listening to offers on Brian Thomas Jr., a move that seems highly unlikely on paper, but might be more plausible than people think:
"The Jaguars are listening on calls for WR Brian Thomas Jr., even if a move feels highly unlikely. They’re also shopping for defense."Dianna Russini
Thomas’ second season hasn’t come close to matching the promise of his electric rookie year. His production is down, the drops are up, and the confidence just isn’t there. He’s gone from rising star to midseason mystery, but the talent hasn’t vanished. And for a Giants offense missing Malik Nabers for the season and looking to give rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart some help, he might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
Giants could reunite Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. in bold trade deadline swing
There's nothing like getting the band back together.
The surprising trade chip and Nabers played at LSU together, where they combined for over 2,700 yards with 31 scores in 2023. Reuniting them in New York wouldn’t just be nostalgic — it’d be terrifying for opposing defenses, especially with a rising star under center like Dart.
The 22-year-old needs real pass-catching weapons. That’s no knock on Darius Slayton or Wan’Dale Robinson, but this offense was built to run through No. 1. With him sidelined with an ACL injury, the need for a short-term solution-turned-long-term WR2 is obvious.
It might take a Day 2 pick to pry Thomas Jr. loose, but general manager Joe Schoen has never shied away from making bold moves when conviction takes the wheel. And when that upside has built-in chemistry with your franchise cornerstone, it’s the kind of risk you take every time.
The fact that the Jags are even listening to calls on their 23-year-old star receiver is wild. Just last season, he racked up 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. So yeah, twist my arm about taking a flier on a guy not eight months removed from finishing fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. Like, what is Jacksonville thinking?
If Dart's the future — which, duh — the Giants better start acting like it and build around him, especially in his formative years. No time like the present. There’s a window here, and Thomas might just be the kind of gamble that makes it worth watching. He'll come at a cost, but if Big Blue thinks he'll elevate the offense, they could pull something crazy.
