Despite the New York Giants coming off their worst season in franchise history, this past rookie class has been a bright spot, giving Big Blue fans reason for optimism about the team's future. A key piece of that future is running back Tyrone Tracy Jr., who turned heads during his rookie campaign.
With Tracy Jr. and wideout Malik Nabers both delivering standout performances in their first seasons, the Giants' offense now lacks only one critical piece: a franchise quarterback. Everyone, including Tracy Jr., is eager to see who Joe Schoen and the Giants' front office will select with the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft.
The Giants are expected to bring in a veteran quarterback through free agency or explore trade options for players like Derek Carr, Kirk Cousins, Justin Fields, Sam Darnold, or Russell Wilson. Still, regardless of those moves, the team must draft a young quarterback this offseason—someone Brian Daboll and his coaching staff can mold into the franchise leader for years to come.
The two top prospects standing out in this year's draft are Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders. However, with the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns picking ahead of the Giants and both teams likely targeting quarterbacks, it’s unclear which player will be available for Big Blue.
While both first-round prospects have their strengths and weaknesses, Tracy Jr. knows exactly who he wants the Giants to select.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is Cam Ward's biggest fan and thinks NY should draft him
Speaking with former Giants wide receiver and New York Post Sports host Brandon London, Tracy Jr. made it clear he’s a big fan of Ward’s game and thinks it fits perfectly with Daboll’s system. The soon-to-be second-year running back explained that the league is shifting toward quarterbacks who excel both as passers and runners, and after watching Ward’s film, he’s convinced the Miami standout is the best fit for the Giants' offense.
Tracy Jr. also acknowledged that he’d be satisfied with any quarterback the Giants draft, including Sanders. The G-Men could even opt to pass on a first-round quarterback and target a prospect like Jaxson Dart, Jalen Milroe, or Quinn Ewers in the second round. However, it’s clear that Ward is Tracy Jr.’s preferred choice for New York’s future under center.
If Schoen finds himself undecided on draft day and both Ward and Sanders are still available when the Giants are on the clock, he might want to take Tracy Jr.’s advice. The running back’s endorsement of Ward as the best long-term solution for New York’s offense could carry significant weight in the decision-making process.
