Things have taken a turn.

After Week 16, the New York Giants were in prime position when it came to their 2025 NFL Draft positioning. After a few different series of events over the past couple of weeks, they had worked their way all the way to the top.

The Giants entered the final two weeks of the season exactly where many fans wanted to see them. All they had to do was lose the final pair of games in Week 17 and Week 18, and the ultimate prize could be had.

Now, whether you happen to believe the no. 1 overall pick should be Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders or Miami quarterback Cam Ward is another argument and story altogether. But, the Giants did, indeed, have the no. 1 overall pick -- for a moment.

Then, New York hosted the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Quarterback Drew Lock decided to have the game of his life, ending the day going 17-of-23 for 309 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions as the Giants beat the Colts 45-33. He also added a rushing touchdown.

Updated NFL Draft order after New York Giants' Week 17 win over Colts

1. New England Patriots (3-13)
2. Tennessee Titans (3-13)
3. Cleveland Browns (3-13)

4. New York Giants (3-13)
5. Jacksonville Jaguars (4-12)
6. New York Jets (4-12)
7. Carolina Panthers (4-12)
8. Las Vegas Raiders (4-12)
9. Chicago Bears (4-12)
10. New Orleans Saints (5-11)

The bad news? The Giants may have taken themselves out of the running for the quarterback they would have preferred. They might have even taken themselves out of the running for either of the draft's top two quarterbacks.

If the draft happened at this very moment, though, they'd have one of Sanders, Ward or Colorado's Travis Hunter.

More Giants news:

While some might say Hunter is the best prospect in the draft, the Giants' need of a quarterback might trump any argument over who is the most talented rookie available. New York isn't going to ride into next year with any sembalnce of a combination like the one they've had throughout this season.

No, they need a true franchise quarterback.

If the Giants are unable to land either Sanders or Ward, when it is all said and done, then maybe they go hard after a free agent like Sam Darnold. Maybe, they end up in on the Kirk Cousins sweepstakes.

OK, I will spare Giants fans any more anxiety attacks or headaches. For now, we can only hope Tennessee and New England somehow beat the Texans and Bills, respectively, in Week 18.
