Questions with a GMEN HQ Editor

Hello, Giants Nation! Today at the Giants Headquarters we’re starting a new series. It’s a pretty simple concept: at GMEN HQ we have two Editors, myself and my colleague @AdamGaneles, and we’re going to start having a GIANT debate right here on our sports pages.

The first question is a good one, and the success of the team will be dependent on its answer. If the the Giants go 3-13, no one will care about the answer. At the same token, if the Giants go 13-3, all the fanatics in G-land will wonder who gets the lion’s share of the credit. So what’s the question?

Adam, who’s the MVP of the New York Football Giants in 2014 and WHY?

The easy answer, the consensus answer… is Eli Manning. But I don’t believe this to be an accurate assessment angle for the Giants upcoming season. Yes, Big Blue needs Eli to be solid, but they don’t need him to be spectacular to win football games. The Giants will quickly develop into a defensive-minded group, buttressed by a stubborn running game and short, quick strikes.

After going on a cornerback recruiting rampage in free agency, the Jints secondary is stacked to the brim. How do we complement a strong coverage unit in the NFL? PASS RUSH. With mostly inexperience and veteran mediocrity occupying the defensive end position, the Giants need Jason Pierre-Paul to return to some semblance of 2011 form. Second-year DE Damontre Moore has talent, but a fear-inducing JPP ready to pounce on the opposite end of the line will speed up Moore’s learning curve.

If JPP can get after the quarterback consistently, it will loosen the load on every aspect of the football team. Your 2014 Giants MVP is Jason-Pierre Paul. A free agent in 2015, JPP would be well served financially to perform like a stud. Then everybody wins!

That answer will be coming up next on Giants Q&A at GMEN HQ. Until then, Giants Nation… stay BLUE.
