New York Giants: Making The Case For Amari Cooper

With uncertainty brewing about how Victor Cruz will return, it is not unfathomable that the New York Giants, would draft a wide receiver with the 9th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Cooper is a phenomenal talent. As a freshman in 2011 Cooper had 59 receptions for 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. In his sophomore year he caught 45 passes for 736 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Last season though Cooper put up out of this world numbers. The unstoppable receiver had 124 receptions for 1,727 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Cooper is one of the best college football players I have ever seen; there is little doubt that he is a special wide receiver. What makes Cooper so special?

His game is very similar to Odell Beckham Jr. who was the Giants rookie of the year sensation in 2014. Like Beckham Jr., Cooper is a precision route runner with a high football IQ. He knows how to read the defensive backs and how to get open.

The 6-1 210 lbs. Cooper would be the perfect complement to the Giants offense. Beckham Jr. and Cooper would be a lethal combination potentially for a long time with the Giants.

Drafting Cooper would allow Cruz to be moved back to the slot, where he originally became a star. Cruz is suited best for the slot position. His speed and size in the slot is a tough proposition for any defense.

Any situation in which the salsa dancing Cruz is your third best receiver is a pretty good situation. The Giants would have the best receiving group in the National Football League. The offense would be unstoppable, as long as the line protects Eli Manning.

The Giants have much more pressing needs than at wide receiver. That being said, Cooper is a very intriguing option. If Cooper is available when the Giants pick, drafting him would have an immediate impact on the this football team.
