New York Giants: Grading Their Pick In Ereck Flowers

facebooktwitterreddit

After all of the big names came off the board, the New York Giants had a select few to choose from. Their rumored primary option Bandon Scherff was taken at No. 5 overall by the rival Washington Redskins, much higher than anyone anticipated. While most people had Andrus Peat becoming a Giant, Ereck Flowers was the clear cut choice of Big Blue.

Flowers is one of the best options possible the Giants could have drafted at offensive line. Offensive line is a position that the Giants had a glaring weakness at last year. However, when you think about it now, their offensive line doesn’t sound that awful anymore.

The projected starters would be Flowers, Justin Pugh, Will Beatty, Geoff Schwartz, and Weston Richburg. Doesn’t that sound like one heck of a starting squad to protect Eli Manning? Flowers is very versatile and could play anywhere on the line, even though he played primarily played tackle in college.

Flowers is good enough to have the ability to step right into the starting role on the Giants’ offensive line. That is something they desperately need. The fact that he can play anywhere on the line is a huge plus as well. The Giants had a lot of issues shuffling around linemen last season as now, that is one less thing to worry about come next season.

Overall, Flowers is a very massive tackle at 6’6″ and 329 pounds. He tends to be very physical and aggressive in his play. I think the Giants could benefit from a little bit of attitude as this is a solid pick. After all, an offensive line should be all about pushing people around and winning the battle of the trenches.

Draft Grade: B+
