Poll: Should Marshall Newhouse Be A Starter?

facebooktwitterreddit

This offseason the New York Giants signed veteran offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse to add depth along the offensive line. General manager, Jerry Reese, was glad he did when Will Beatty suffered a torn pectoral muscle that would sideline him at least the first half of the season. Now Newhouse has a chance to become a starter in his third job in the National Football League.

Newhouse was the 169th selection in the 2010 NFL draft. Newhouse’s career started off with an injury that kept him out his entire rookie season. He ended up being a starting right tackle for the Packers in his second season. Newhouse had his moments, but he struggled to protect Aaron Rodgers.

The Bengals signed him to an inexpensive one year deal for the 2014 season. He was later benched and the Giants signed him not long after free agency began.

Newhouse is projected to be the starter at right tackle as the Giants try to move Justin Pugh to the right guard position. The thought process here is that the Giants need to get something out of Pugh who is really physically suited to be a guard. They cannot give up on their first round draft pick from 2013.

The Giants are hoping that Pugh’s game will be elevated at his new position and that Newhouse will be good enough at right tackle. The left side of the offensive line looks like it will be Ereck Flowers at tackle and Geoff Schwartz at the guard position. The center is going to be an interesting battle in training camp, but lets say the starting line looks like the following for now:

LT: Flowers

LG: Schwartz

C: Weston Richburg

RG: Pugh

RT: Newhouse

What do you think Giants Nation should Marshall Newhouse be the starter? The alternative would be keeping Pugh at right tackle and starting John Jerry at the right guard position.
