The New York Giants have made some roster moves in response to their preseason injuries. According to reports the team waived Justin Currie and Tony Johnson. This made room for veteran linebacker, Ashlee Palmer and the undrafted free agent cornerback C.J. Conway.

It was no surprise to see a linebacker signed by the Giants, who saw Jon Beason get hurt once again last Saturday. Beason has a sprained knee and is hoping to be ready by week one of the regular season. Knowing how he is injury prone is was wise of the Giants to add depth to the linebacker position.

Palmer isn’t a superstar, but rather a reliable veteran tackler. Palmer has started 22 games with the Detroit Lions, in his six- year career. He adds depth to the position group and has a chance to be a starter.

With or without Beason in the fold the Giants are thin in the second level of their defense. Jameel McClain is also injury prone as well and Jonathan Casillas has been mostly a special teams player. Palmer is an addition to the roster. He has 156 tackles and 2.5 sacks on his NFL resume.

Conway is an undrafted free agent who will compete for a roster spot. The Giants need all the help they can get in the secondary this preseason. The Giants have had too many defensive backs get hurt.

In the first preseason game Mykkelle Thompson suffered a season ending injury while Landon Collins was hampered by a sprained MCL. The Giants subsequently signed Brandon Merriweather a veteran safety.

Conway is replacing the injured Justin Currie on the 90 man roster. Bennett Jackson added to the injury list, suffering an ACL tear in the second preseason game.

The Giants made two sensible decisions based on their needs from injuries. The preseason is half over but for the injury plagued Giants, the preseason cannot start soon enough.
