2 winners (and 4 losers) from Giants’ Week 8 disaster that broke the fanbase

Is it 2026 yet?

Skip. Next. Just fast forward to 2026. Just get this miserable season over with already. The frustrating part is we're not even halfway through the season, and things have gone from bad to worse for a New York Giants franchise that deserves better.

Just when you thought we hit rock bottom following an 18-point fourth-quarter collapse against the Denver Broncos in Week 7, Week 8 said, "Hold my beer." Not only did the G-Men get mollywhopped 38-20 by their hated divisional rival, but they likely lost rookie running back Cam Skattebo for the season.

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart did his best to play hero ball, but it's obvious the roster doesn't have enough oomph to support him. Head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen own this loss. Sitting at 2-6, the season is already over, and everything is terrible and the sky is falling and what's the point anymore and life is miserable, so here are a pair of winners and four losers in Big Blue's all-around catastrophe in Philly.

2 winners (and 4 losers) from Giants' complete nightmare vs Eagles

Winner No. 1: Brian Burns' sack total

The Giants are wasting away one of the most dominant pass-rushing seasons in recent memory. Burns' two sacks on Sunday pushed him to 11.0 on the season, leading the league. The pair also extended his streak to three games of two sacks.

If it weren't for the atrocious team defense (more on that later), the 27-year-old might just be the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year. The two-time Pro Bowler is officially on single-season sack record watch. Keep your eyes peeled, Michael Strahan's 23.5.

Winner No. 2: Graham Gano's return

For some reason, the G-Men love to acknowledge their obvious kicking problems and do... absolutely nothing about them. And heading into Week 8, with veteran kicker Graham Gano coming off IR with a groin injury, the opportunity presented itself to screw things up royally... again. But the 38-year-old kicker delivered.

Apparently, playing the waiting game was all they needed to shore up the concerns. Gano went 2-of-2 on field goals, along with hitting both extra points, which is more than their past kickers can say. Yay for some kicking consistency!

Loser No. 1: Fans expecting a fair game from the refs

Winning a game is much tougher when you're playing against two opponents. Unfortunately for the Giants, they were playing against the Eagles and the officials in Week 8. Complaining about the refs is a pastime unlike any other, but seriously, what we had to sit through on Sunday was hot garbage.

It started with overturning Kayvon Thibodeaux's obvious fumble of Jalen Hurts during their infamously ridiculous tush push play. Hurts extended his arm, and Thibs ripped the ball right out of his hands well before any whistle was blown. The refs swallowed their whistles.

The next — and more egregious — non-call was that of linebacker Zack Baun, who illegally hip-drop tackled Skatt straight to the emergency room with a dislocated ankle. Hold them accountable. It was a trash effort by the entire crew.

Loser No. 2: Giants fans

Any time a fan-favorite player goes down — for any extended amount of time — it's a major loss. But when that player is someone like Skattebo, it's so much worse.

The 23-year-old was just finding his footing, running through anyone and everyone in his way to the tune of 617 all-purpose yards and seven total touchdowns in seven-plus games. That's insane level production. Likely losing him for the season is a total bummer for the fans who were all but falling head over heels for their telephone pole-destroying, human-sized fire hydrant.

Loser No. 3: Shane Bowen's job security

We call it how we see it. Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen should be left in Philadelphia. Bowen has to go more than anyone who’s ever had to go has to go. Another week, another disaster of epic proportions for the defense.

They're out of position constantly, can't fill gaps to save their lives, and miss tackles like it's their job, which is ironic because... well, obvious reasons.

Loser No. 4: Cleanliness

So much for the sweep. It was never even close. The brooms will remain in the closet until further notice. After their stunning Week 6 victory, Big Blue had the chance to sweep the Eagles for the first time since 2007. Unfortunately, things didn't go that way.

Not only did they fail to sweep the Birds, but their winless streak in the City of Brotherly Love is now up to 13 seasons. So... that’s cool. Overall, it was another messy game for the G-Men, and they’ll need to clean it up fast if they want any chance of salvaging something from this season.
