NFL Combine: Ali Marpet Steals The Show

What if I told you that on the first day of on the field action from the 2015 NFL Combine, a player from Hobart stole the show? Because that is exactly what happened, when Ali Marpet ran the fastest 40 yard dash of any offensive lineman.

From an athletic standpoint, Marpet may be the best offensive guard prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft class. Despite this talent, it would be doubtful for Marpet to hear his name called before the 3rd round of the draft. How could this possibly be the case?

The problem, or rather the concerns around Marpet is that he played against lesser competition at Hobart. It is hard to know if he can handle the adjustment to the NFL. Because he is from such a small college football program, the evaluation process of Marpet is incredibly difficult.

With his 40 time of 5 seconds flat, Marpet became the main conversation as the NFL Combine heats up in frigid Indianapolis.

This is huge for a player who to the casual observer, is just popping on the radar. Marpet forced his way into the top offensive lineman conversation. He displayed his incredible athletic ability.

This was important because he cannot control his collegiate level of competition, all he could control is how he performed in the spotlight of the NFL Combine.

One thing that goes greatly in Marpet’s favor is his strong showing at the Reese’s Senior Bowl. He did not look like an out of place small school player.

In fact he showed NFL scouts that he is a player that merits their attention. The combine is now the second time Marpet has stood out amongst his peers. The only question is, how will the offensive guard be rewarded in the draft.
