The New York Giants sure have some tough decisions to make come the 2015 NFL Draft. General manager Jerry Reese is known to make some very bold moves in the draft. The Giants have glaring needs on both sides of the ball. So would it make sense for Reese to strike a deal with a team who needs to nab a top tier player?
The most important position the Giants need to add to is safety. Landon Collins will definitely be on the board when the Giants are on the clock. The question is if Collins worth the ninth overall pick? Most analysts don’t think so, and neither do I. The only solution if the Giants want Collins that bad, is to trade back.

The optimal trump card the Giants could use is if one of the top wide receivers in the draft falls into their laps. They could use that player as a bargaining chip. There are a ton of wide receiver needy teams that would give anything to grab one of those explosive receivers.
While that specific situation could be rationalized, trading a draft pick doesn’t seem like a very “Reese” thing to do. He is often criticized for having a “draft the best player available” mentality. It is clear that Reese does indeed seem to handle his draft that kind of way.
Why would Reese trade back if he would always just take the best player available? Unless he’s getting a massive deal, he would be losing in that. He could have a better quality player according to his mindset. The Giants aren’t really into taking big risks like that. Even if he manages to squeeze out multiple draft picks, it may not be worth the instant starter that the Giants need.
The Giants have a win now attitude, so trading back won’t help that. It is a lot harder to find a sure-fire starter in the second round than in the first. There is tons of talent in the top 10 and the Giants can’t afford to pass up that kind of talent.
