1. The Defense Still Struggles:

The Giants did a lot to help the defense, but they still have to show improvement on the grid iron. The Giants defense ranked 29th in 2014. That’s right, only three teams gave up more yards than the Giants. The Giants defense was so bad that despite having a top ten offense, the Giants only won six games. If the Giants defense doesn’t reach its full potential in 2015, the team could still have a bad year.

The Giants defense struggled to stop the run in 2014. They gave up 4.9 yards per carry and got pushed around on the defensive side of the ball. With the lengthy absence of Beason, the front seven really struggled. The fact of the matter though, is that when a defense does that poorly in a season, it can’t simply be fixed by one or two players.

If the Giants defense struggles again in 2015 it puts an awful lot of pressure on the offense. Now the offense may very well be good enough to win high scoring affairs, but that isn’t a formula for consistent success in the NFL. The additions of Owamagbe Odighizuwa, Kenrick Ellis and Landon Collins will certainly help the defense. There is no promise however that the defense will prevail next season. The team still needs to prove it.

There is much to be excited about in Giants Nation. I don’t mean to rain on anybody’s parade. I am simply stating what could go wrong in the 2015 season for the Giants. The Giants could very well avoid these problems, but we must know that these struggles are realistic possibilities.
