Closing Statement:
I am all for a solution to the Giants problems on the offensive line. If the Giants feel like Long is healthy enough to provide protection for Manning, I can’t fault it. If he is healthy he is a rather low risk investment, the Giants aren’t going to have to spend a boatload to get him in a Big Blue uniform. It’s just hard to count on Long as the solution to the Beatty injury problem, even if he is just a stop gap.
The Giants are not desperate along the offensive line. Is the situation optimal? No, it isn’t. Is the situation workable? It absolutely is. The Giants have multiple options at each position on the offensive line. If the Giants don’t bring in Long, or for that matter anybody else, it will not be the end of the world.
At the end of the day, signing Long would give the Giants no less uncertainty on the offensive line. It would be just another option that could go either way. With the addition of Flowers, with Geoff Schwartz returning to the starting line up and with pretty good depth, the Giants may be just fine.
